From vanity to song

Well, I’ve not posted much because I’ve been so busy with everything! But I was reading something the other night, and wanted to share what I enjoyed:

3. Man without Christ will perceive
That all things are vanity.
Human life is meaningless
Without hope or purpose.

4. But when man takes Christ as life,
He’s in spirit born anew.
When he daily lives by Christ,
Vanity is turned to song.

Stanzas 3 and 4 from “The Meaning of Human Life”
as quoted in Vessels Useful to the Lord, Chapter 1

Actually this fits in pretty well with the seminar that will take place next month on The Mystery of the Universe and the Meaning of Human Life. I got a taster of what the seminar may be about in my reading of this chapter. In fact the first hymn mentioned in this chapter was titled, “The Mystery of the Universe”!

Anyway, my enjoyment simply was that without Christ we perceive that all is vanity. It’s all a waste, with no meaning. This really matches my experience. Even in all my busyness, working “for the Lord”, if what I do is without Christ, it is vain. But when we have Christ.. our vanity is turned to song! From vanity of vanities, we have song of songs!

God is now my salvation; I will trust and not dread; For Jah Jehovah is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.

Christ turns our vanity to song. Christ Himself is our song!

1. My song shall be of Jesus;
His mercy crowns my days,
He fills my cup with blessings,
And tunes my heart to praise.
My song shall be of Jesus,
The precious Lamb of God,
Who gave Himself my ransom,
And bought me with His blood.

2. My song shall be of Jesus
When, sitting at His feet,
I call to mind His goodness
In meditation sweet:
My song shall be of Jesus,
Whatever ill betide;
I’ll sing the grace that saves me,
And keeps me at His side.
I’ll sing the grace that saves me,
And keeps me at His side.

2. My song shall be of Jesus
While pressing on my way
To reach the blissful kingdom
Of pure and perfect day:
And when my soul shall enter
That realm of splendor fair,
A song of praise to Jesus
I’ll sing forever there.

I’m looking forward to Christ being my song at the College-age Conference in Wales this weekend :)
