Day 0: The Blending Trip Begins!

We are now more than half way through our blending trip, and although I knew I wouldn’t have much time to write while at each destination, I was hoping that I could write en route to each place. However, due to enjoying, fellowshipping, praying, and reading in the vans, coupled with netbook battery limitations, I’ve not been able get much done so far. Needless to say, we are having a great time!

You may be wondering, what is a “blending trip”? Well the Greek word for blending also means adjusted, harmonised, tempered, mingled, and implies the losing of distinctions. The picture we can see described in the Bible is that of many grains of wheat being blended into one loaf, each grain losing its distinctiveness for the producing of the loaf. Similarly, for the building up of the Body of Christ, for the corporate expression of Christ, there is the need of such blending, tempering, and harmonising (1 Corinthians 12:24). Maybe one brother or sister is very fast, and another is very slow. One may be British, and another may be American. But in the Body of Christ, there must be just Christ – Christ is all and in all! (Colossians 3:11)

So, we are on a road trip through California that is more than just a road trip! It is even more than just a church-visitation trip! Yes, we are having a great time, visiting different cities, seeing different sites, and participating in many different activities, but the real purpose of our trip is spiritual in nature. It is for the “blending”! May the Lord blend us more and more with one another and with all the dear saints we are visiting, for the building up of the Body of Christ!

And now… to Day 0 of the blending trip..! Pictures will follow in the next few posts :)

Day 0 (Tuesday 21st June 2011)
So on Day 0, we (H, V and I) arrived safely and without mishap at LAX. I had a few more questions coming through the border than previous visits, but that may have been to do with the fact that I may have said I was here for “three months” instead of “three weeks”…! But we got through and met T & L, and after a lot of waiting around we caught the FlyAway shuttle bus to Westwood Village, found a place to sit with refreshing drinks and more importantly wireless (Starbucks to the rescue!) and found out how to contact the brother picking us up and where the rendezvous point was (smart phones to the rescue!). We had dinner with saints living near to UCLA, and joined the prayer meeting.

I really experienced what we were reading in the home meeting the previous Friday – which was about not missing the meetings (like Thomas did – John 20:24) so that we also gain the corporate experience and enjoyment of the Lord – as I was beginning to feel rather fluey and headachey and had been considering skipping the meeting and resting. But in the end I went (according to life and peace) and enjoyed the exercise of the spirit with the saints, as well as meeting and remeeting saints from this part of LA. And at the end of the meeting, one of the dear sisters gave me a packet of Airborne (vitamin C) to help speed up my recovery. I had hospitality at one of the UCLA sisters’ houses and was in bed and asleep by 9.30pm. Wonderful!
