We will be always with the Lord

I was very sad to receive the news today that my grandmother (Popo/Japo) passed away, early this morning. She lived a long and full life, and was always with her family who loved and cared for her, and whom she loved and cared for.

We had a special time last December to celebrate and commemorate the 100 years that the Lord had given Popo so far. There were 35 family members from Florida, Canada, Haiti, and the UK who made it to be with Popo and we enjoyed a precious family time together.

As well as enjoying delicious food and one another’s company, we also had a special time to learn of and appreciate the experiences that Popo passed through. Her history is quite amazing, both humanly and divinely. She worked hard her whole life, with no formal education (she could not read nor write), and encouraged all her children to study hard and do the best they could. She also prayed for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren every day, encouraging us to love our Lord Jesus.

It is a comfort to me that I was able to visit and see Popo last week, on my way to my sister’s wedding (which was supposed to be the subject of my next post). I had just a brief time with her – Wednesday evening till early Friday morning – but it was worth the extra flight in order to spend the time with her. Thank You Lord.

Popo was very tired toward the end of her human life, but her spirit was still strong. We know that she is now at peace and resting in the Lord. Lord Jesus, thank You for Your mercy and grace to take care of Popo till this day, and continue to lead each one of our family to know You and love You more and more every day.

Here are some verses from the New Testament Recovery Version Online that are a real promise and encouragement:

But we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who are sleeping, that you would not grieve even as also the rest who have no hope.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so also those who have fallen asleep through Jesus, God will bring with Him.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are living, who are left remaining unto the coming of the Lord, shall by no means precede those who have fallen asleep;

Because the Lord Himself, with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are living, who are left remaining, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and thus we will be always with the Lord.

Therefore comfort one another with these words.

    Dear Sarah, what a wonderful testimony your grandmother had. It made me think of this verse:
    [Jehovah God] showing lovingkindness to thousands of generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments. Exodus 20:6
    Thank the Lord for grandmothers like Popo, who, by loving the Lord, cause so many generations to enjoy God’s lovingkindness for eternity. May the Lord continue to bless your family with Himself. A big hug, Hannah X
