Day 10: Chilling out (together)

August 1st, 2011 Categories: blending... 1 comment

After returning to London, overcoming jetlag and getting back to work, my blending trip memories were already beginning to fade – and that was before I went to Poland! But by now I think you should have realised we were having an awesome time, enjoying the Lord together and with the saints we visited :) I was aiming to complete this series of blog posts before the European Young People’s Conference and before my memory went completely… so I managed to write but not post, and here they are!

Day 10 (Friday 1st July 2011)
After a pleasant overnight stay at our hotel in Santa Clarita, it was time to pack up and move out again, although we were to stay in the area for most of the day. The group split into two, with the majority going to the Magic Mountain theme park. I was among those who opted not to – I’m just not one for being spun around, and our alternative activities provided enough adrenaline for me ;)

Day 9: A fresh start, every day

July 22nd, 2011 Categories: blending... 2 comments

Throughout the entire blending trip I enjoyed having my time with the Lord each morning. The Lord was always so fresh and available, ready to energise and supply me for the whole day. Sometimes we go away on a ‘holiday’ and come back feeling like we need another one! But after this blending trip (and the summer training), I came back feeling so rested and refreshed, and I really think it was because of all the normal days, simply touching the Lord!

It is Jehovah’s lovingkindness that we are not consumed,
For His compassions do not fail;
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.

Day 9 (Thursday 30th June 2011)
It was no different on Day 9 in San Francisco, where I was able to get up early enough to take a shower, spend some time with the Lord, and even touch base with the saints I serve with in London. I actually had to do some work remotely at this point, but thank You Lord for computers, phones (and particularly T’s phone), free wifi at Starbucks and Mc Donald’s, and the patient saints who allowed me the few minutes I needed to connect!

And then, it was time to hit the road again. The brothers picked us up, and then we headed off to Berkeley to join the rest of the group. The vans were loaded up, and we were off! Destination: Unknown!

Day 8: Finding real gold

Day 8 (Wednesday 29th June 2011)
I took the most pictures on Day 8, and maybe I should tag it “fun in the fog” instead of “fun in the sun“, but I think you’ll get the point – it was a lot of fun! We began the day with a later start than normal, giving the saints staying in Berkeley time to get over to us in San Francisco. Then after we regrouped at the Blazing Saddles bike shop (having traversed the Golden Gate Bridge twice in the van, in an attempt to find it!) we shared the Christ we enjoy with the employees, were given the route and safety talk, were kitted out with helmets and bikes, test-rode our bikes down the blue mat, and were escorted down to the grass by the bay!

And we were off!

Day 7: Reigning over the rain

Day 7 (Tuesday 28th June 2011)
We started Day 7 by again gathering for breakfast at the Fresno meeting hall, and then it was time to move on out. Our next destination was: Berkeley! The sky got greyer and greyer as we travelled north, till eventually it was pouring down with rain when we arrived at the Berkeley meeting hall. But despite the rain I was so glad to visit, especially as this was one of the places I hadn’t been to before, and because I knew a few sisters from the area who had travelled through Europe in the past few years. I guess you could say the rain made us feel quite at home… just like today! (Torrential downpours in July? What is wrong with the world?) Anyway, if you are from the US, visiting Berkeley is a small preparation for visiting Europe… it even looks a little similar, reminded me of some of the cities up north like Manchester, Liverpool, etc.

Day 6: Flowing water

Day 6 (Monday 27th June 2011)
My hospitality in Fresno was at “grandma’s place”, and although only one of us could speak Chinese to her, it was still so very sweet to be in her home. We were able to spend a little time together on the morning of Day 6 because the brothers were rather lost in finding us, so we were an hour waiting outside, before the heat of the day, enjoying the garden and the pleasant morning sun, and sampling grandma’s “organic” peaches. Yummy, and even more so on an empty tummy!
